What is Spoon Collector?
Spoon Collector is a body of creative work that will eventually become a novel, and maybe more. It's a story about biomechanical synthesis as well as the requisite cognitive advancement, ultimately resulting in the next stage of 'human' development.
What is a 'biomech' in this context?
In the world of Spoon Collector, a 'biomech' or biomechanical creature, is an organism composed of both biological (organic) and mechanical (inorganic) components. Such organisms require both a nervous system compatable with their biology, and an onboard programming system in order to make use of both types of tissues in tandem. In addition, individuals require appropriate cognitive structure to operate both systems, and ultimately, utilize their physiology in an optimal way.
This is 'Smoke Spitter', one of the earliest biomech designs.
It scuttles around on four fleshy feet, while swinging arms madly for momentum in order to reach top speed. Mucus excreted from the soles allow for it to slide across most surfaces.
Spews a varying amound of sticky vapor, which consilidates into semisolid mass after a few seconds of exposure to the atmosphere. These vapors are stored in the smoke sac and are a by-product of the spitter's mixed-process metabolism.
The territory of one looks like a web of interconnected partial garbage bags.
The process of creating and expelling the smoke-web requires a great deal of respiration in order to perpetuate basal metabolic function, so many additional respiratory functions are in place, notably both intake and exhaust vents along the creature's back and the tail, which also exists to provide balance and supplemental coordination to the spitter's mad-dash style of locomotion.
Welcome to the world of Spoon Collector: a terrifying and desolate wasteland, unconfined by limitations.
